When multiple sites use the same shared Auvik collector, a collector disconnection can generate an Auvik collector disconnected alert for each affected site. You can group these alerts in Alerts v2, so that Auvik sends one notification instead.
The single alert is triggered on the parent multi-site, reducing duplicate alert notifications while ensuring you are notified when the shared collector disconnects.
Before you begin
The Group Shared Collector Alerts option is available in the trigger conditions of collector alert definitions.
Its primary use is to reduce noise from shared collector disconnected alerts. For new customers, it is enabled by default in the pre-configured Auvik Collector Disconnected alert.
Enable grouped shared collector alerts
- Navigate to Manage Alerts > Alerts.
- On the Alerts v2 tab, locate the Auvik Collector Disconnected alert definition, or any other custom alert definitions, that you want to update.
- Select the alert definition, then select Edit.
- In Trigger conditions under Group Shared Collector Alerts, check Only notify me once from the parent collector for any shared collectors.
- Review the rest of the alert definition, then save your changes.
Note: This update will clear all active alerts for this alert definition because some alerts may no longer be cleared based on the new version of the alert definition.
What happens when this option is enabled
When a shared collector disconnects, the alert definition triggers once on the parent multi-site. It does not trigger separately for sites that use the shared collector.
As a result, Auvik creates and sends only one Auvik Collector Disconnected alert notification for the shared collector outage.
