What is Remote Terminal Agent (Aurora)?

Follow

Remote Terminal Agent is an AI-powered assistant embedded within the Remote Terminal that helps you work more efficiently and confidently when interacting with network devices.

Auvik AI (Aurora) generates context-aware CLI commands and interprets terminal output. This reduces reliance on deep vendor-specific expertise.

Prerequisite: Auvik AI (Aurora) is enabled in Admin > Settings > Feature Enablement on the global site.

Where to Find Remote Terminal Agent

  1. Navigate to a device
  2. Click Remote Management > Terminal
  3. Click Activate Remote Terminal Agent

Aurora appears as a side panel within the terminal session.

How Remote Terminal Agent Works

Aurora supports two core workflows that align to common tasks performed in the terminal.

1. Generate CLI Commands

Use Auvik AI (Aurora) to generate commands for a specific task, reducing the time spent recalling syntax and vendor-specific commands.

Steps:

  1. Click Open Auvik AI
  2. Enter a request (for example, “How to check for interface errors?”)
  3. Click Send Message
  4. Review the suggested command(s)
  5. Select:
    • Use Command to insert into the terminal (without executing), or
    • Copy to copy the command
  6. Review and modify as needed
  7. Execute in the terminal

Understanding command suggestions:

Aurora helps you assess risk by categorizing suggested commands:

  • Reversible - Reversible and safe commands that are typically read-only or low-impact commands such as getting interfaces status
  • Warning - Irreversible, but safe commands, such as acknowledging alarms
  • Dangerous - Potentially impactful commands such as shutting down the device or erasing flash storage.

Always review commands before executing them. For commands that may impact the network, use an appropriate change process, including maintenance windows and rollback planning.

2. Analyze Command Output

Use Aurora to interpret command output and determine next steps, speeding up root cause identification and reducing guesswork.

Steps:

  1. Run commands in the terminal
  2. Click Copy Output to Auvik AI
  3. Enter what question you have (for example, “What does this indicate?”)
  4. Review the entire draft message and remove sensitive information
  5. Click Send Message
  6. Review:
    • Observations and potential issues
    • Suggested next steps
  7. Continue troubleshooting as needed

Auvik AI (Aurora) highlights key signals in the output to help you focus on what matters most.

Best Practices

  • Remove credentials, passwords, secrets, personal data, or other sensitive information before sending
  • Review all commands before execution
  • Validate suggested actions before making configuration changes
  • Provide clear and specific prompts for better results

Auvik AI (Aurora) is designed to assist your workflow, not replace operational judgment.
