How to change your username in Auvik

Follow

In Auvik, your username is your email address. How you change it depends on how you sign in.

If you use Auvik’s native (password-based) login:

  • The login email is the unique identifier for a user account and can’t be edited in place.

  • To change it, an admin should:
    1) Invite the new email address as a new user.
    2) Assign the same roles/permissions and site access the old user had (for MSPs, grant access to all relevant tenants; for single-site, assign the equivalent role).
    3) Ask the user to accept the invitation, set a password, and configure two-factor authentication (2FA) if required.
    4) Verify the new user can access everything needed.
    5) Remove or deactivate the old user to complete the change.

  • Notes: Any API tokens, personal alert subscriptions, or 2FA settings are tied to the user and won’t carry over automatically. Recreate API tokens under the new user and reconfigure any personal settings as needed.

If you sign in via Single Sign-On (SSO) through an identity provider (IdP) like Azure AD/Entra ID, Okta, Google, etc.:

  • Update the user’s email/username in the IdP.

  • Ensure your SSO claim mapping (often NameID or email) continues to provide the updated email to Auvik.

  • On the next SSO login, Auvik will use the identity provided by the IdP. If your organization has provisioned a matching Auvik user record, access should continue to work. If not, have an Auvik admin invite the updated email or adjust the SSO provisioning settings.

  • If you previously also had a native Auvik password-based account, that account is separate. Decide whether to keep it or rely solely on SSO.

Tip for MSPs/multi-tenant environments: Use one email identity for the technician and grant it access to multiple sites/tenants. This avoids having to manage separate accounts per site and makes switching organizations in Auvik simple.
