To create a connection between a firewall port and a switchport in Auvik, follow these steps. This allows you to manually define or correct topology links when discovery doesn’t automatically map them due to lack of CDP/LLDP or incomplete SNMP data.
1. Go to the Firewall Device
- In Auvik, navigate to Inventory > All Devices.
- Locate and click into your firewall.
2. Click Edit
3. Click Custom Connections
4. Select the Switch and Port
- From the drop-down, choose the switch.
- Then choose the correct switchport that connects to the firewall.
5. Confirm and Save
- Review the connection and click Save.
- The topology map will update to reflect this new link.
Optional: Repeat on the Switch Side
While Auvik automatically reflects the link bi-directionally, you can also go to the switch, locate the correct interface, and ensure the firewall port appears as the connected device.
Tips
- Ensure SNMP is enabled on both devices to help Auvik auto-discover connections in the future.
- Use naming conventions or VLAN hints to make port matching easier.
- If devices are behind a collector in a different subnet, LLDP/CDP may not traverse correctly — manual linking is ideal here.
