Creating an Internal Ping Check

Follow

Prerequisites

To use Internal Ping Check, you’ll need:

  • At least one Auvik Collector deployed (on-prem or IaaS)

  • IP reachability from the collector to the target IP address(es)

  • Appropriate network/firewall rules allowing ICMP echo/echo-reply

Creating an Internal Ping Check

  1. In Auvik, navigate to the site where the collector lives.

  2. Go to InventoryAll Services.

  3. Click Add Service (or equivalent action) and select Internal Ping Check.

  4. In the Internal Ping Check form:

    • Source collector

      • Choose the collector that will send pings.

      • If multiple collectors exist, pick the one in the appropriate network/site.

    • Name

      • Give the check a meaningful name, e.g. MPLS – HQ to Branch 01.

    • Interval

      • Set how often the ping should run (for example, every 1 minute or 5 minutes).

    • Target IP address(es)

      • Enter one or more IP addresses to monitor.

      • Auvik will attempt to match each IP to a discovered device (optional but helpful for context).

    • Failure/success thresholds (fails/passes)

      • Set how many consecutive failures are required before the service is considered down, and how many passes to restore it.

  5. Save the configuration.

Auvik will start polling those IPs from the selected collector and recording RTT and packet loss.
