You can now use Aurora, to help you create new alerts in Alerts v2 faster. Aurora is Auvik’s suite of AI-powered capabilities that help IT teams work smarter and faster. To learn more about Aurora, see Aurora Beta FAQ.
By simply describing what you want to monitor in plain language, Aurora automatically generates a draft alert definition — including alert type, trigger conditions, and trigger messages — that you can review, edit, and finalize before saving.
What You Can Do with Aurora
Aurora helps you:
- Create alerts faster by describing what you want to detect (for example, “Alert me if firewalls and switches are offline for more than 5 minutes”).
- Save time and reduce guesswork when choosing alert type or building trigger conditions.
- Refine alerts easily by reviewing and adjusting the Aurora-generated definition before saving.
How to Create an Alert with Aurora
Permission Required: You must have permission to create alert definitions in Alerts v2 before you can use Aurora.
- Go to Manage Alerts > Alerts.
- Click Enable Aurora.
- Type a short description of the condition you want to monitor.
- Example: Alert me if firewall interfaces go down for more than 2 minutes.
- Review the Aurora-suggested alert definition.
- Note: Aurora can make mistakes. Always review the alert definition before saving to ensure the conditions and settings are accurate.
- Note: Aurora-generated alerts always use default settings for some fields (see below).
- Make any desired changes, such as:
- Changing the sites the alert applies to.
- Adjusting the clear conditions.
- Select notification channels for where this alert should send notifications.
- Click Save Alert.
Privacy Note: Aurora does not use your chat data to train its model. To learn more about Aurora, see Aurora Beta FAQ.
Limitations
The AI-Assisted Alert Creation feature is currently in open beta. Some configurations are not yet supported and will default to standard values:
- Sites the alert applies to: Always uses the default — This site and its children.
- For any vs. For all sub-items e.g. interfaces: Always uses the default - For any.
- Roll up Alerts: Always defaults to disabled.
- You can still configure notification channels before saving the alert — these are not set automatically by Aurora.
- Clear conditions: Always defaults to Inverse condition of the trigger.
Other limitations include:
- Once set, Apply Conditions to (alert type) cannot be updated by Aurora in the same alert creation form. If you need to restart an alert definition with Aurora’s assistance, close the alert creation form first and Click Add Alert again.
- Aurora can’t use tags.
- Aurora can’t distinguish between Windows Services Name and Display Name if the prompt does not specify.
- Aurora can’t distinguish between Windows Services started and state if the prompt does not specify.
- Aurora is case sensitive when referencing entity names.
- Aurora may make mistakes — review before saving.
Known Issues
- Aurora may add unnecessary rule groups in the trigger condition.
- Aurora chooses components on a device instead of component sensors on a device when alerting on device temperature.
Aurora can’t distinguish between prompts that use a percentage-based threshold with a time delay and prompts that use Percentage of Occurrences.
Tips for Writing Effective Prompts
To get the best results from Aurora when creating alerts:
- Be specific – Include the device type, condition, and duration (e.g., “Alert me if any switch goes down for more than 5 minutes”).
- Use clear language – Avoid overly broad phrases like “network issues” or “performance problems.”
- Focus on measurable conditions – Aurora works best when you describe something it can monitor directly, such as uptime or operational status.
- Start simple – You can always refine or add complexity after Aurora generates the initial alert configuration.
- Review before saving - Remember, Aurora can make mistakes — always double-check.
Providing Feedback
After reviewing your generated alert, you can share feedback directly within Auvik:
- Click thumbs up or thumbs down to rate the quality of Aurora’s alert suggestion.
- Use the chat field to describe what worked well or what didn’t.
- Feedback goes directly to Auvik’s product team and helps improve Aurora’s accuracy and user experience.
