Custom applications

You can add a new application filter where an application doesn’t currently exist, or you can add a new application filter to an existing application. Note that custom applications will always take precedence over preconfigured applications. You can also prioritize custom applications over each other.

How to add a custom application

Once the new custom application has been added, you can select it to show the custom application only. After the new application has been added, monitoring will begin on flow traffic. Historic data will be based on the preconfigured applications only.

  1. In the right corner of the top navigation bar, click the three dots.
  2. From the context menu, select Custom applications
  3. Click the New custom application button.
  4. In the Application field, select from one of the pre-existing applications, or start typing the name for a new application to be added.
  5. From the Group drop-down menu, select where you’d like the application grouped. If it’s an existing application or custom application, the group can’t be changed.
  6. From the Clients drop-down menu, select which clients you’d like the new custom application to appear for.
  7. Enter the details for your filter. Be sure to enter the correct keyword ahead of the detail you’re trying to filter for. Simply entering 80, for example, won’t apply a filter. Keywords that can be used are:
ip address: ip, src, dst
  port: port, sport, dport
  packets: pkts
  bytes: bytes
  country: country, country_src, country_dst
  exporter: exporter
  interface: iface_in, iface_out
  asn: asn, asn_src, asn_dst
  protocol: protocol, proto
  domain: domain, domain_src, domain_dst
  device_name: device_name, device_name_src, device_name_dst
  post nat: pnat, pnat_src, pnat_dst
  post nat port: pnat_port, pnat_sport, pnat_dport
expression grouping: (, ), and, or
  comparison operators: =, !=, >, <, >=, <=
  1. Click Save.

How to prioritize a custom application

Pre-configured applications can’t be prioritized over custom applications.

TI_38.png

  1. In the right corner of the top navigation bar, click the three dots.
  2. From the context menu, select Custom applications
  3. Click the up or down arrow next to the application to change the priority.

How to edit a custom application

Pre-configured applications can’t be edited.

Editing a custom application is limited to editing the clients and application filter only. To update the application name or group, you must add a new application.

TI_38.png

  1. In the right corner of the top navigation bar, click the three dots.
  2. From the context menu, select Custom applications
  3. From the list of custom applications, click the pencil (TI_39.png) for the application you’d like to update.
  4. Make any edits you want.
  5. Click Save.

How to delete a custom application

Deleting a custom application removes the last defined filter for the custom application. In addition, the app will no longer be available from the filter selection. All historic data captured through the application before it was deleted will still be available for viewing.

  1. In the right corner of the top navigation bar, click the three dots.
  2. From the context menu, select Custom applications
  3. From the list of custom applications, click the trash can (TI_40.png) for the application you’d like to delete.
  4. Confirm the cancellation by clicking OK.

Update view units

You can update the view units. Updates to view units apply only to bar graphs.

In the right corner of the top navigation bar, click the three dots. From the context menu, select the unit you’d like to view the detail in.

Available units are bits/s, bytes/s, flows/s, pkts/s, bits, bytes, flows, and packets.
