How to enable SNMP on a Dell x1000 series switch

To configure SNMP on your Dell x1000 series switch, you need login credentials to the Dell GUI interface.

  1. Log into your Dell x1000 switch through your web browser.
  2. Navigate to Network Administration > SNMP Monitoring > Global Parameters.
  3. Click the gear icon (⚙) to edit.
  4. For the Engine ID type, select default and enabled for all items then OK.
  5. Click the gear icon again.
  6. Copy the Engine ID to your clipboard and hit Cancel.
  7. Click Add.
  8. For Supported IP Format, select IPv4.
  9. For IP Address, enter the IP address of the Auvik collector.
  10. For Local Engine ID, paste the Engine ID from your clipboard.
  11. Click OK.
  12. Navigate to Network Administration > SNMP Monitoring > Communities.
  13. Click Edit, then click Add.
  14. For Supported IP Format, select IPv4.
  15. For SNMP Management Station, choose All.
  16. Enter a community string in Community String.
  17. Select Basic for the access mode.
  18. Select Read-Only and set the view name as Default.
  19. If you use a community string other than public or private, add it to Auvik by following these steps.
  20. A prompt will appear to save your new changes to the running-config. Select Yes.

SNMP should now be working on your Dell x1000 series switch
