In cases where you'd need to pull information from a specific SNMP OID in your device and Auvik doesn't gather it by default, you can set up a custom SNMP Poller to achieve that. You can then set up custom alerts based on the values obtained. Additionally, you can configure an SNMP Poller to poll serial numbers for devices that store this information in a vendor/device specific OID.
Managing SNMP Poller settings from your multi-site dashboard applies the settings to all your child sites. To manage a poller for a specific site, change the setting from that site’s dashboard. SNMP Poller settings changed from the site’s dashboard are not overwritten by any settings changed from your multi-site dashboard.

Unit Measure Dropdown
Both the Add and Edit SNMP Poller settings now support adding an Unit Measure to the SNMP Poller. For numeric values Auvik users can now select the unit measurement from a drop-down list. This allows users to poll critical information such as temperature on devices like an UPS.
Custom unit measurement definition is also supported.
How to add SNMP Poller settings
- Click Discovery in the side navigation bar
- Click the Discovery Settings tab
- Click SNMP Poller Settings
- Click Add SNMP Poller Setting
-
Fill in the Add SNMP Poller Setting form:
-
OID: Specify the OID for the SNMP PollerType in, or copy-paste, the OID that you would like to test and apply to the device(s) chosen
-
Expected Type: Select the type of the value
- Either a String or a Numeric type is supported
- Poll Period: Select how often you want Auvik to query the device for this poller.
-
Devices: Select the devices that you want to apply the poller to
- Be as specific as possible, so that the devices that recognize the SNMP Pollers are being queried
- See How to filter data in Auvik for more detail
-
Output Parser: (Optional) Choose from the drop-down if you’d like to parse the value that the OID pulls back
- This could be After, Before, Between, and for more advanced Regular Expression
-
Test Device: Choose a test device to poll via SNMP the OID you entered prior
- This will allow you to validate the returned value and test your parsed results
- You can use the test option as you’re setting up or editing the SNMP poller until you are successful in your OID and\or parsing needs
- Save Value
- Name: Specify the display name for the SNMP Poller

Units**: (Numeric type only): If you select the type of Numeric, select the unit of measurement you want the SNMP Poller to be represented
- You can also input a custom unit of measurement if required
-
- Click Save
A maximum of 1250 monitors are supported per device. See How long does Auvik store data to learn how long Auvik retains poller data points.
If you want to receive alerts for the monitor service you just added, go to Manage Alerts and add the new network, device, or interface alert. Select the name of the poller service for the trigger condition, and any additional conditions you’d like.
How to edit SNMP Poller settings

How to reset SNMP Poller settings
Only SNMP Poller settings created from the multi-site dashboard can be reset. You can’t reset SNMP poller settings that were created directly on a child site.
To know which SNMP Poller settings have been updated, look at the asterisk for each SNMP poller in the table. A white asterisk () indicates no updates have been made. A grey asterisk (
) indicates an update has been made.
- Click Discovery in the side navigation bar
- Click the Discovery Settings tab
- Click SNMP Poller Settings
- In the list of poller settings, find the one(s) you want to reset
- Note: The asterisk must be grey
- Check the box at the beginning of each row

Once you delete a SNMP Poller setting, any associated alerts are automatically disabled. If you later decide to add the poller setting back, edit the disabled alert to redefine the trigger conditions. Then re-enable the alert.
How to restore deleted SNMP Poller settings
If you’ve deleted an SNMP Poller setting that was created from the parent dashboard, you can restore it rather than recreating it from scratch. Note that only SNMP Poller settings shared between the multi-site and the child site can be restored. You can’t restore an SNMP Poller setting that was created on a specific site.

- Click the Discovery Settings tab
- Click SNMP Poller Settings
- Hover over the gear (
) icon above the Add SNMP Poller Setting button
- Click Restore SNMP Poller settings
- In the list of deleted SNMP Poller settings, find the one(s) you want to restore. Check the box at the beginning of each row
