Alerts and notifications
An alert tells you that something happened on a network element. Not every alert produces a notification.
A notification communicates that an alert should receive attention. To display alerts at a glance, you can associate a Map Overlay notification channel with the alert.
The sections below explain how to view alerts and notifications.

Viewing alerts
In Auvik, you can view alerts across your network, including alerts that did not generate a notification.
- At the MSP or multi-client level, select All Alerts from the side navigation.
- At the client level, select All Alerts to view alerts for that site.
- From a specific entity, select Alerts in the entity navigation below the map to view alerts associated with that entity.
You can filter alerts by severity, status, alert name, detected time, entity, description, related alert, and dismissed state. The alert grid refreshes automatically to show the latest events that match the selected filters.
The alert list can show the alert severity, current status, detection time, affected entity, description, external ticket ID, and whether the alert was dispatched. External ticket IDs are shown for supported Autotask and ConnectWise tickets; Freshdesk ticket details are available from the individual alert.
The External Ticket ID field can also show that Auvik is attempting to create a ticket or that a retry or delivery failure occurred. When available, select the ticket ID to open the external ticket or use the available retry/create-notification action.
The Dispatched value indicates whether Auvik sent the alert to the notification channels associated with the alert definition. An alert that occurs during a scheduled maintenance window may not be dispatched.
For paused alerts, see How do I pause or unpause alerts?.
Select an individual alert to view its details.
Hostname shown after a device goes offline
Auvik displays the last successfully collected hostname or device name in alerts and dashboards. For SNMP-monitored devices, this may come from the last successful poll of a value such as sysName.0.
If the device is offline, Auvik cannot query the device again to verify or refresh the hostname. The value shown in an offline alert may therefore be cached or outdated. This does not necessarily mean that the alert references the wrong device.
To verify the live hostname source on the device, the device must be online and reachable by the Auvik collector. After it comes back online, allow a polling cycle to complete so Auvik can refresh the discovered value.
If the displayed name must change immediately, temporarily edit the device name in Auvik. The change is applied immediately throughout Auvik. After the device is reachable and the discovered hostname is current, reset the device name to return to the polled value.
For the steps to edit or reset a device name, see How do I edit device details?.
Viewing notifications
Notifications can be viewed in several places:
- In notification emails sent by Auvik.
- In an integrated third-party application, such as:
- Autotask: Service Desk > Tickets, a company’s Tickets view, or the Tickets tab for a synchronized configuration.
- ConnectWise Manage: Service Desk > Service Board, Service Ticket Search, the Service tab for a synchronized configuration, or the Service tab on a company record.
- Freshdesk: The dashboard or Tickets tab.
- ServiceNow: The incident table, unless the integration has been customized.
- A configured Slack channel.
- A configured Microsoft Teams group.
- From an entity profile page, where you can filter to alerts that generated notifications.
- From the MSP map when Display Notifications is enabled.
- From a network map when Display Notifications is enabled.
