How do I see alert notifications on my map?

Follow

Auvik can display open alert notifications on the client location map and network topology map. To display an alert on the map, associate a notification channel with the Map contact method to the alert definition.

The map notification channel controls how alerts are displayed visually. It does not control whether the underlying alert is generated or whether other notification channels, such as email or PSA integrations, send notifications.

Prerequisites

Before configuring map notifications, confirm that:

  • The alert definition is enabled.
  • The devices or interfaces are discovered by Auvik.
  • The devices are included in the alert definition’s scope.
  • The devices appear on the appropriate Auvik map.
  • You have permission to manage alerts and notification channels.

Create or verify a map notification channel

Auvik includes a preconfigured map notification channel. You can use it or create a custom map notification channel.

  1. Go to Manage Alerts > Notification Channels.
  2. Locate the existing map notification channel, or click Add Notification Channel.
  3. Enter a name for the channel if creating a new one.
  4. Select Map as the contact method.
  5. If available, configure the colors used for each alert severity.
  6. Save the notification channel.

Associate the map channel with an alert

The map channel must be associated with each alert definition that should display on the map.

For Alerts v2:

  1. Go to Manage Alerts > Alerts v2.
  2. Open the alert definition.
  3. Review the Notification Channels section.
  4. Add the map notification channel.
  5. Review the alert’s site and device scope.
  6. Save the alert definition.

For Legacy alerts:

  1. Go to Manage Alerts.
  2. Open the relevant Legacy alert.
  3. Add the map notification channel in the notification settings.
  4. Save the alert.

If you manage alerts from a parent or MSP dashboard, confirm whether the alert applies to the child sites where the map notifications are required.

View alert notifications on the map

On the client location map:

  • Alert counts appear at the client location.
  • Click a notification pin to view the alert details.
  • The map displays alerts based on the selected date range.

On the network topology map:

or interface connections with open alerts display alert indicators.

  • Hover over a device or connection to view alert information.
  • Select the alert information to open the related alert details.

By default, map notifications are enabled. If they are not visible:

  1. Open the map.
  2. Click the map settings icon.
  3. Confirm that Display Notifications is enabled.
  4. Refresh the map if necessary.

Why is an alert not appearing on the map?

Check the following:

  • The map notification channel is associated with the alert definition.
  • The alert is currently active or open.
  • The affected device or interface is included in the alert scope.
  • The device or site is included in the alert’s applied-site scope.
  • The map’s Display Notifications setting is enabled.
  • The selected map date range includes the time the alert was opened.
  • The alert has not been cleared or dismissed.

Cleared or dismissed alerts do not appear as active alert indicators on the map. Alerts may continue to appear in the All Alerts view even when they are not displayed as active map notifications.

Important considerations

  • Adding a map notification channel does not change the alert’s trigger condition.
  • Disabling map notifications does not disable the underlying alert.
  • Other notification channels, such as email, PSA, or webhooks, continue to operate independently.
  • If the same alert is configured in both Legacy alerting and Alerts v2 with the same map channel, duplicate alert indicators or notifications may occur.
  • If an alert is configured at a parent or MSP level, verify that the channel and alert scope include the required child sites.
  • If a child site or alert definition has customized notification settings, review that configuration separately.
