Process Monitoring helps you identify which processes are consuming the most CPU, memory, or disk resources on your monitored servers and workstations. Instead of remotely connecting to a device and opening Task Manager, you can view the top resource-consuming processes directly in Auvik and investigate historical resource utilization for individual processes.
With Process Monitoring you can:
- Correlate overall CPU & Memory utilization with process-level resource usage to more quickly determine the root cause of resource bottlenecks.
- Identify the processes responsible for high CPU, memory, or disk utilization without having to remote into the machine and open up the Task Manager (or Activity Monitor on Mac).
- Reduce time spent diagnosing performance issues by providing immediate visibility into resource-heavy processes.
- Investigate intermittent issues using up to 14 days of historical process data instead of relying on live observations.
Note: Process Monitoring is available from the Server and Workstation dashboards on devices with the Endpoint Agent installed.
View the top resource-consuming processes
- Navigate to a Server or Workstation dashboard.
- Scroll to the Top 10 Processes section.

Select the resource you want to view:
- CPU
- Memory
- Disk Utilization
- Review the list of the top 10 processes for the selected resource.
- Want to see a longer time range? Use the date range picker at the top of the page.
The table displays the processes consuming the most of the selected resource based on the latest sample within the selected time range.
Drill in to see all resources for a specific process
- From the Top 10 Processes table, select a process name.
- Review the process details page to view resource utilization across all monitored resources.
- Adjust the dashboard time range as needed to investigate activity during a specific period.
Process Data
Top 10 Processes
Processes included in the Top 10 for each resource are the Top 10 as of the most recent (latest) sample in the selected time range.
The “Latest” column is the most recent (latest) sample in the selected time range. To find a process that was contributing to high utilization around a specific time, change the end date on the date range selector to be within the time window of interest to find the processes with high utilization at that time.
Sparse Data
Auvik only collects utilization values for the Top 10 CPU, the Top 10 Memory, and the Top 10 Disk utilizing processes each time the values are collected. This will result in missing data points for some resources if they were not in the top 10 processes utilizing that resource when resource utilization values were sampled.
Sampling frequency
Auvik samples resource utilization by process once per minute. Data that’s more than 4 hours old, one minute samples will be averaged and presented as the average of sampled values over the hour.
