How to set Location Services on Windows 11 for Auvik Endpoint

Follow

As of Windows 11, Microsoft requires location services to be enabled on a workstation in order to gather Wi-Fi information.

This impacts Auvik customers who are using endpoint to monitor their workstations.

If location services are not enabled on a Windows 11 (non VM) machine connected to Wi-Fi you will notice that the following data is missing from the endpoint dashboard:

  1. Wi-Fi Data Rate (one chart on the dashboard)

  2. Wi-Fi Signal Quality (second chart on the dashboard)

  3. Information about the network in the connectivity history timeline:

    1. SSID

    2. BSSID (MAC Address)

    3. Channel information

    4. Security information

To fix this, location services will need to be enabled on that machine.

  1. Go to Start  > Settings > Privacy & security > Location.

  2. Do one of the following:

    • If you're an administrator on the device, you can use the Location services setting to control whether the location service can be used on this device. If you're not an admin on this device, you will not see this setting.
