Introduction
Yes. Disabling the map overlay only removes alert notifications from the map view. It does not stop alerts from being generated, logged, or sent through other enabled notification channels.
How map overlay notifications work
The map overlay notification channel controls whether open alerts are displayed visually on the client location map or network map. It is strictly a visualization layer and does not affect alert logic or processing.
Disabling map overlay notifications does not disable the underlying alert rule.
What happens when the map overlay is disabled
When the map overlay is disabled:
- Alerts continue to trigger based on their configured alert definitions.
- Alerts continue to appear in the Auvik portal under All Alerts for the respective site.
- Enabled notification channels (email, PSA/ticketing, webhooks, etc.) continue to send notifications.
- Map-based visual indicators (such as pop-ups or pins) are no longer shown.
How to verify alerting is still working
- Navigate to the relevant site.
- Open All Alerts.
- Check for active or recently triggered alerts.
- Go to Manage Alerts.
- Review the alert definition.
- Confirm the expected notification channels are enabled.
- If map-based visibility is required, ensure the map overlay notification channel is enabled for those alerts.
Summary
Disabling the map overlay does not stop alerts from being generated. It only affects whether alerts are visually displayed on the map. Alerts will still appear under All Alerts and continue to notify through any configured notification channels.
