Note: For newly installed ConnectWise RMM Agents, please be aware that certain necessary registry entries (such as SITENAME) may not be created until approximately 30 minutes after the initial RMM deployment. This delay is important to consider when scheduling the deployment of the SaaS Management agent, especially for brand-new RMM installations, as Auvik SaaS Management uses these keys to create matching instances in Auvik SaaS Management.
Integration Overview:
SaaS Management integrates with ConnectWise RMM, utilizing key data points from the CW RMM Agent Registry, like SITEID and SITENAME, enabling a single script deployment that can be used across all clients within Connectwise RMM.
Deployment Steps:
1. Login to ConnectWise RMM:
- Navigate to the ConnectWise RMM dashboard.
2. Accessing the Task Manager:
- Go to Automation > Tasks.
3. Creating the Deployment Script:
- Name the script (e.g., “Auvik SaaS Management Installer v1.80.0”).
- Add a descriptive note to the newly created deployment script. We recommend including the date that the script was configured and any other helpful information that may be important to those who are running the script.
- Add an appropriate category based on your configuration of Connectwise RMM.
4. Script Configuration:
- Select the Script Editor tab to configure our newly created script. Here, we’ll configure the script to download and run the Auvik SaaS Management agent.
- Using the Add (Function) button, choose the PowerShell Script option as the first step of your Connectwise RMM task (Depending on your version of Connectwise RMM, the specific means by which the Powershell “step” is added to the newly created task may vary.)
- Return to the SaaS Management platform and either copy/paste or download/upload the .ps1 file to the newly created step in Connectwise RMM.
- Other considerations:
- Set a script timeout of 600 seconds (10 minutes) - This should give the script an appropriate amount of time to download the agent files and install them.
- The script must have the appropriate permissions to download and write files to the hard disk of the device. In most situations, the Connectwise RMM scripting service with the appropriate permissions to do this, however, depending on your configuration some configurations may need to be escalated to use admin privileges or other system-level privileges.
- It is recommended to run the deployment on a schedule so that new devices added to Connectwise RMM are easily deployed. We recommend running the installation script at least once per week. If the deployment script is run on a device that Auvik SaaS Management is already installed, the agent by default will not attempt to reinstall or redeploy.
5. Deploying the Script:
- There are various methods to run the script within Connectwise RMM. To do this for specific devices within Connectwise RMM Navigate to Devices > Computers or Device Groups.
- From this menu, select a specific device or a specific group to run the deployment script on. If this is your first Auvik SaaS Management deployment, it is recommended to run the script on a small number of test devices prior to deploying more widely.
6. Verifying Deployment:
- Check the SaaS Management platform to confirm the successful deployment. To do this, navigate to the Clients menu. You should see a newly created client which uses the SITENAME and SITEID registry entries from Connecwise RMM. Select the newly created client and navigate to the devices menu to see if the new device has properly checked in.
