How can we help?

Modifying your Power BI master template

Follow

Power BI can create and manage two file types—.pbit and .pbix—which we’ll refer to as PBIT and PBIX throughout this article.

PBIX is the most common file type, as it’s a working file that contains all of a report’s structure (the queries, the data model, and the charts) along with the actual data.

PBIT is a Power BI template It contains all of a report’s structure like a PBIX file, but it includes no data, making it perfect to use as a master template.

Auvik shares a PBIT file meaning that every time you’d like to create a new report, you can start from scratch using Auvik’s PBIT file.

What happens when I build new charts, reports, or metrics on top of Auvik’s master template?

As you modify Auvik’s master template, you’ll want to test your new report with actual data, which means that you need a working PBIX file.

Once you’ve tested your new PBIT file and feel confident that it’s the new report you’d like to use as your master template, simply click  Save As and select   Power BI template files (*.pbit) from the dropdown menu.

You can now use this file as your master template. Every time you’d like to create a new report, you can start from your master template and input your desired reporting period.
