The option to pause alerts is handy for managing noise on a particular entity while you tweak the alert definition or correct the issue. (Maintenance windows are also good for this when you can plan in advance but sometimes the unexpected creeps up and you need to respond quickly.)
Pausing an alert pauses it for a specific entity only, not the entire alert. While the alert is paused, you’ll still receive alerts for other devices where the alert has not been paused.
To see which alerts have been automatically paused based on the rules in the alert definition, navigate to All Alerts from the client’s dashboard. From the All Alerts grid, you can see whether the alert was paused. Click View Paused Alerts from the top right corner to view the current and previously paused alerts.
How to pause an alert
Alerts for a specific entity are automatically paused based on the rules in the alert definition, or can be paused manually. Pausing alerts for a specific entity must be done from your client’s dashboard.
- Click All Alerts in the side navigation bar.
- In the displayed list of alerts, find the alert(s) you want to pause. Check the box at the beginning of each row.
- Click Pause Alerts.
- Select the length the alert should be paused for:
- 1 hour
- 2 hours
- 4 hours
- 12 hours
- 24 hours
- Indefinitely
- Click Save.
Once the pause is saved, Auvik creates a notification that the pause was implemented. Under View all paused alerts, you’ll see when the paused started and when it’s expected to end. If want the pause to end before it’s defined end time, you can manually unpause the alert.
How to unpause an alert
You can unpause an alert before the scheduled time is up. Unpausing an alert re-enables the alert for the selected entity.
- Click All Alerts in the side navigation bar.
- Click View Paused Alerts
- In the displayed list of paused alerts, find the alert(s) you want to dismiss. Check the box at the beginning of each row.
- Click the Unpause button.
- Confirm the alert should be unpaused by clicking Unpause.
How to see past and present paused alerts
There are two tables available. On each table, you can use filters to show only certain details. For more information on filtering, see How to filter data in Auvik.
- Currently paused alerts shows a list of all alerts that have been paused.
- Previously paused alerts shows a list of all alerts that were previously paused. The history that appears is based on the selected date. By default, you’ll see the last 10 minutes. To see more, click the calendar from the entity navigation bar and select the date range you want.
