Spanning tree change alert

The details shown below are based on the default settings. Options for editing this alert don’t include the ability to edit the trigger or clear condition definitions. You can specify whether the alert should clear based on how it’s configured, or whether it should have no clear condition and be cleared manually.

Primary purpose: Notify when spanning tree port forwarding has changed.

Possible causes for this alert include:

  • Port has changed to blocking to prevent a loop. A new device may have been added to the network.
  • Port has changed to listening/learning because spanning tree has been turned on or the former root bridge is no longer available and is completing convergence.
  • The interface is connected to a network element.

 

Alert severity

Critical

Repetitive alert pause condition

After 10 occurrences within 2 hours against a specific entity, pause the alert for 2 hours

Alert trigger condition

The spanning tree port on an interface has changed to or from forwarding. This alert only applies to interfaces connected into another network device such as a router, switch, firewall or access point, as detected by Auvik.

Alert clear condition

None.

Action(s) to be taken

Check the device’s configuration and confirm if the change is expected.
