How do I manage OID monitor settings?

Follow

Once the Auvik collector is successfully installed on your network, it automatically searches on its local subnet to find more networks and devices. You can control how frequently the scan is completed, specific OIDs that should be monitored, and which services should be used to access data.

Auvik’s monitor service lets you add specific device OIDs (object identifiers) you’d like to be alerted on. You can also use it to pull serial numbers for devices

Managing monitor settings from your MSP dashboard applies the settings to all your clients. To manage a monitor for a specific client, change the setting from that client’s dashboard. Monitor settings changed from the client’s dashboard are not overwritten by any settings changed from your MSP dashboard.

How to add OID monitor settings

  1. Click Discovery in the side navigation bar.
  2. Click the Discovery Settings tab.
  3. Click Monitor Settings.
  4. Click Add Monitor Setting.
  5. Fill in the Add Monitor Setting form. When adding an entity for the monitor, you can filter devices. See How to filter data in Auvik for more detail.
    1. If you select the type of String, select how you want the OID to be used. From the Use As dropdown, select either Monitor Only (for alerting) or Serial Number (no alerting).
  6. Click Save.

If you want to receive alerts for the monitor service you just added, go to Manage Alerts and add the new network, device, or interface alert. Select the name of the monitor service for the trigger condition, and any additional conditions you’d like.

How to reset OID monitor settings

Only OID monitor settings pre-configured by Auvik or created from the MSP dashboard can be reset. You can’t reset OID monitor settings that were created directly on a client account.

To know which OID monitor settings have been updated, look at the asterisk for each OID monitor in the table. A white asterisk () indicates no updates have been made. A grey asterisk () indicates an update has been made.

  1. Click Discovery in the side navigation bar.
  2. Click the Discovery Settings tab.
  3. Click Monitor Settings.
  4. In the list of monitor settings, find the one(s) you want to reset. (The asterisk must be grey.) Check the box at the beginning of each row.
  5. Click the Reset button.
  6. Confirm the reset by clicking Reset.

How to delete OID monitor settings

  1. Click Discovery in the side navigation bar.
  2. Click the Discovery Settings tab.
  3. Click Monitor Settings.
  4. In the list of monitor settings, find the setting(s) you want to delete. Check the box at the beginning of each row.
  5. Click the Delete button.
  6. Confirm the cancellation by clicking Delete.

Once you delete a monitor setting, any associated alerts are automatically disabled. If you later decide to add the monitor setting back, edit the disabled alert to redefine the trigger conditions. Then re-enable the alert.

How to restore deleted OID monitor settings

If you’ve deleted an OID monitor setting that was created from the MSP dashboard, you can restore it rather than recreating it from scratch. Note that only OID monitor settings shared between the MSP and the client can be restored. You can’t restore an OID monitor setting that was created on a specific client.

  1. Click Discovery in the side navigation bar.
  2. Click the Discovery Settings tab.
  3. Click Monitor Settings.
  4. Hover over the gear () icon above the Add Monitor Setting button. Click Restore monitor settings.
  5. In the list of deleted monitor settings, find the one(s) you want to restore. Check the box at the beginning of each row.
  6. Click Restore.
